Posted in DURHAM, NC – According to data compiled by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of North Carolina, bankruptcy activity was at a standstill last month in Durham and Orange counties.
The report showed that a total of 63 debtors in Durham and Orange counties filed initial petitions in the Durham division of the court in May, compared to 66 in April and 61 in May 2011.
The number of filings dropped throughout most of 2011, then leveled out, with the majority of the decrease in filings found within the consumer sector. Business-related filings, which only account for a small percentage of the total number of petitions, have actually increased.
May 2012 totals included 50 filings in Durham County and 13 in Orange County.
